Luis Chavez arrived in Longmont in 1991, after moving from Mexico to Texas, and then on to Colorado. Shortly after his arrival , Luis was offered a job as a Child’s Specialist Assistant through a Substance Abuse Prevention Program at the Longmont Youth Center called “Familias de Base”. He developed his English skills during that time, and in 1992, joined Skyline High School and the St. Vrain Valley School District as a Teacher's Aid, and began furthering his professional career in education. He married Francis Melendez and together they have four boys who all graduated from Skyline High School and played soccer for the school. Luis obtained a degree in behavioral science, along with a minor in Special Education in 2003, taught Special Education, and now he is the Homeless Education Liaison and Bilingual Interpreter for SVVSD, as well as the Soccer Program Head Coach here at Skyline High School since Fall of 2010.
