Dean Haakenson is a passionate and experienced educator with 23 years of teaching experience, currently at Skyline High School in Longmont, Colorado. He teaches AP Human Geography, Geography, and US History and is committed to advancing geography education within the school community. Dean has been instrumental in implementing AP Human Geography in the district.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Education and a BA in Human Geography, both from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Additionally, he completed the ProGeographer Certificate Program at the University of Northern Colorado, enhancing his expertise in human and field geography.

Throughout his career, Dean has taken on leadership roles, including serving on the St. Vrain Valley Social Studies Leadership team and being a Teacher Fellow with the American Geographical Society. He is also an AP Human Geography Exam reader and has led numerous curriculum innovations in his classes to ensure engaging, student-centered learning.
