Fall Prinicpal Update

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

We are off to a fabulous start to the 2014-2015 school year here at Skyline!  We have welcomed our biggest freshmen class ever, have had a successful Fall Sports season, hosted an amazing District College Fair and are preparing for the musical in November.  We hope that you and your student have been able to take advantage of the abundance of opportunities that Skyline has to offer and have had a successful fall.

In addition, Skyline was rated at the Performance Level (the highest possible) on the School Performance Framework by the Colorado Department of Education for 2014.  Thanks to our students and staff for continuing to improve the academic environment and promoting high expectations for our school - our hard work is paying off!

o  We have a new website!  Please bookmark shs.svvsd.org and go there often to find important information regarding academics and upcoming events.  We are beginning to update contact information for staff (including course information, teacher websites, etc.), and will continue to do so over the next couple of weeks.

o  In an effort to protect the learning environment and limit disruptions to classroom instruction we ask that you limit deliveries (food, forgotten items by your student, deliveries from outside vendors) to your students during the school day.  Please refrain from leaving items with our office staff to deliver to your student unless it is an absolute emergency.  We want our academic environment to be interrupted as little as possible during the school day.  Thank you for your cooperation regarding this!

o  For any of you that have a Twitter account, I encourage you to follow me at @SHS_Principal.  I tweet great things happening in our school (last week we had a group of kids go to the Hispanic Leadership Youth Summit in Denver, a great piece of art was displayed in our school by VPA and pictures of some of our great fans) or reminders about events (College Fair, Conferences, etc.)  The feed can also be found on our new website. Anyone is welcome to follow!

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held October 15th and 16th from 3:00-8:00.  Please plan on attending and speaking with your student’s teachers – no appointment necessary.  Also, there will be an Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) session in the library from 5-6:30 both evenings.  (See Counseling Office Update for more info.)

o  Make sure to read the mailing you will receive soon with these important documents

·    2014 TCAP Results

·    Counseling Office Update

·    Important information from the district regarding health updates

·    Fee statement for your student – you can pay on line at RevTrak.

Thank you for being a part of the Falcon Family and continuing to promote success for your student here at Skyline.

Involving Parents with Skyline Career Connections

Skyline invites you to participate in Career Connections! Our students NEED information on careers and job opportunities, in our area and beyond. In recognition of the many types of jobs and professions that are held by our parent community, we ask you to take part in teaching our students about YOUR career, along with its educational and training requirements. No immediate commitment is needed – registering only provides your information for possible future contact to visit our school to talk with students. For details and to add your name to Career Connections, please fill out the following form: http://goo.gl/forms/61XCGI0K4B

We look forward to working with you on building this valuable resource for our students!

Individual Career & Academic Planning with SHS Students (ICAP)

Throughout the year, Skyline will provide activities related to career and success after high school. Many of these activities will focus on goal setting, self-knowledge, academic and post-high school planning. Parents have the opportunity to learn more about these activities and other ICAP resources during Parent/Teacher Conferences, Oct. 15 & 16, 5:00-6:30 p.m., in the Library Computer Lab.
