Congratulations to Ms. Kelly Bates, SED teacher, and Ms. Stephanie Texera, Director of Bands and VPA Academy Co-Coordinator, for being awarded Skyline's Falcon of the Month. Both Ms. Bates and Ms. Texera bring intense passion and commitment to their roles and care deeply and sincerely for their students.
Skyline High School will host two parent-teacher conferences in February. The first will take place on Wednesday, February 1st from 3:00 to 7:30 PM. The second will be held on Thursday, February 9th from 3:00 to 7:30 PM. We hope that you can join us on one of these evenings. Lyza Weisman calls her "bag of tricks" everything from pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose with the eraser end of a pencil to drinking through a straw — both simple tools that help her reach just above her shoulders near the ceiling of her upward range of motion.
Reality is that the wheelchair-bound Skyline High School freshman needs help in the bathroom and in the shower due to a genetic condition — spinal muscular atrophy — that causes weakness and wasting in muscles due to a loss of specialized nerve cells.
