Liz Nelson is in her 2nd year as Accompanist for Vocal Music at Skyline High School.
Ms. Nelson earned her Master of Music with an emphasis in piano performance from University of Colorado, Boulder in 2012, and a Bachelor of Music, piano performance emphasis from California State University, Northridge. She has accompanied for several operas and musicals including Phantom of the Opera, The Love for Three Oranges, Carmina Burana, L’Forza del Destino, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. She has also accompanied for choirs since 1973, with works that have included Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
Ms. Nelson enjoys performing as a singer and accompanist with the local womens’ a cappella group Take Note. She also has experience in vocal and choral arranging, winning the Award of Merit in 1999 and 2007 for Hymn Arrangements in the worldwide church music contest for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ms. Nelson has taught private piano lessons for 38 years and is currently President of the Boulder Area Music Teachers’ Association and a member of CSMTA and MTNA.
Ms. Nelson has five children who all attended Skyline High School and six grandchildren. She enjoys quilting, biking, and is a technology geek.
